An on-line variational Bayesian model for multi-person tracking from cluttered scenes

چکیده
Object tracking is an ubiquitous problem that appears in many applications such as remote sensing, audio processing, computer vision, human-machine interfaces, human-robot interaction, etc. Although thoroughly investigated in computer vision, tracking a time-varying number of persons remains a challenging open problem. In this paper, we propose an on-line variational Bayesian model for multi-person tracking from cluttered visual observations provided by person detectors. The contributions of this paper are the followings. First, we propose a variational Bayesian framework for tracking an unknown and varying number of persons. Second, our model results in a variational expectationmaximization (VEM) algorithm with closed-form expressions for the posterior distributions of the latent variables and for the estimation of the model parameters. Third, the proposed model exploits observations from multiple detectors, and it is therefore multimodal by nature. Finally, we propose to embed both object-birth and object-visibility processes in an effort to robustly handle person appearances and disappearances over time. Evaluated on classical multiple person tracking datasets, our method shows competitive results with respect to state-of-the-art multiple-object tracking models, such as the probability hypothesis density (PHD) filter among others.

Learning Image Statistics for Bayesian Tracking
This paper describes a framework for learning probabilistic models of objects and scenes and for exploiting these models for tracking complex, deformable, or articulated objects in image sequences. We focus on the probabilistic tracking of people and learn models of how they appear and move in images. In particular, we learn the likelihood of observing various spatial and temporal filter respon...
متن کاملOnline multiple people tracking-by-detection in crowded scenes
Multiple people detection and tracking is a challenging task in real-world crowded scenes. In this paper, we have presented an online multiple people tracking-by-detection approach with a single camera. We have detected objects with deformable part models and a visual background extractor. In the tracking phase we have used a combination of support vector machine (SVM) person-specific classifie...

a r t i c l e i n f o A Hierarchical Model Fusion (HMF) framework for object tracking in video sequences is presented. The Bayesian tracking equations are extended to account for multiple object models. With these equations as a basis a particle filter algorithm is developed to efficiently cope with the multi-modal distributions emerging from cluttered scenes. The update of each object model ta...
متن کاملA Particle Filter Based Non-Rigid Contour Tracking Algorithm with Regulation
This paper presents an active contour tracking algorithm based on the particle filter for a non-rigid object in cluttered scenes. We decompose the non-rigid contour tracking problem into three parts as transition estimation, deformation detection, and shape regulation. We use an affine transform dynamic model and employ the particle filter to estimate the parameters. We generate a probabilistic...
متن کاملTracking human motion using auxiliary particle filters and iterated likelihood weighting
Bayesian particle filters have become popular for tracking human motion in cluttered scenes. The most commonly used filters suffer from two drawbacks. First, the prior used for the filtering step is often poor due to relatively large, poorly modelled inter-frame motion. Second, the use of the prior as an importance function results in inefficient sampling of the posterior. The use of the auxili...
